Mercedes Gains Game-Changing Approval on Brink of New F1 Season

Mercedes has been working to get its fuel homologated for the new F1 season.

Mercedes has successfully secured homologation for its fuel ahead of the season-opening Australian Grand Prix. Two weeks ago, reports emerged that the team had not yet received certification for its fuel for the 2026 campaign during pre-season testing. The fuel is supplied by partner Petronas, with whom Mercedes has had a longstanding relationship since 2010. Securing homologation this year proved more challenging due to sustainable fuels being introduced as part of the power unit overhaul. Despite initial concerns, Mercedes now has the necessary compliance for its fuel, which can be used in Australia this weekend. Mercedes also provides power units to customer teams McLaren, Williams, and Alpine, in addition to its own works team.
